As an educator, I am in love with Readworks. I utilize Article -A- Day, a set of nonfictional articles that cover different topics, with my students.
This 10 minute routine, if done with fidelity a few days a week, can boost your child’s reading comprehension. It builds prior knowledge, increases vocabulary and builds fluency. Within this 10 minute routine, you choose an article of interest on your child’s grade level. Then have your child read the article and provide 2-3 details they would like to remember. Last, but not least, have your child share the details with you. You can create an account for free and start boosting your child’s reading comprehension.
Data
- One in Six Children Who Are Not Reading Proficiently in Third Grade Fail to Graduate from High School On-Time, Four Times the Rate for Children with Proficient Third-Grade Reading Skills
- Data from the NAEP shows that students who report having more books in their homes performed better academically.
I like the valuable info you provide in your articles. I will bookmark your weblog and check again here regularly. I am quite certain I will learn many new stuff right here! Good luck for the next! Maire Elvin Wincer
